that have been set up to help people with debts. They won't ask you
for any money, they will simply provide free, helpful advice and steer
you in the right direction to help you clear your debts and manage your
finances better.
National Debtline
National Debtline is an independent body offering
free, confidential and independent advice to anyone who has debt problems
in England, Scotland and Wales. You can contact them either by telephone
or email. Their specialist advice is supplemented with self-help written
material that they will send out to you free of charge. Depending on
your circumstances they may also be able to help you set up a debt management
plan or debt relief order, again, completely free of charge. All communications
are treated in the strictest of confidence, and if you prefer you can

Debt Line
Citizens Advice Bureau
Contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau for
advice on money, legal and other problems. They have been offering free
information and advice since 1939 to anyone who needs it. Citizens Advice
Bureau are the largest providers of free, independent money advice in
the UK and deal with over a million debt issues each year. Their trained
advisers are able to supply help on a host of issues including debt,
housing rights, benefit claims and unfair dismissal. They can also make
telephone calls and write to companies and service providers on your
behalf, if necessary. Their trained advisors can help you prioritise
your debts, negotiate with creditors and can even represent you in court.

Legal Aid
Legal Aid is a government funded programme available
to people who need legal advice but can't afford it. It is available
for many kinds of civil legal problems including money, i.e. if you
are having difficulty receiving benefits or if you are in arrears with
your housing payments and your landlord wants to evict you. You can

Debt Advice Foundation
Debt Advice Foundation is a registered UK debt
charity offering free, confidential support and advice. They operate
a free telephone helpline as well as providing free self-help tools
on their website to help you negotiate with your own creditors such
as the Budget
Planner and the Debt

Community Legal Advice
Community Legal Advice is a free and confidential
advice service paid for by legal aid and is offered to any person who
needs it in England and Wales. They offer advice on a host of issues
including debt and employment. Their helpline is available from 9am
to 6:30pm Monday to Friday and between 9am and 12.30pm on Saturday.
And if you are worried about the cost of the call, you can ask them
to call you back. Because they are funded by Legal Aid they can only
offer you their service if you are eligible BUT if you establish that
you are not eligible they can put you in touch with other agencies/services
